Balance

There are seasons where I feel so far away from God, and honestly it’s because I’ve been running. I fill my days with responsibilities; taking care of the house, juggling homework, making sure the kids get to gymnastics. By the end of the day, I’m exhausted.

But the reality is, I’m not too tired to scroll on social media. I’m not too tired to watch my favorite show before bed. Those things have become my “me time,” while time with God often gets pushed aside.

Yet, Matthew 6:33 reminds us: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” God isn’t asking for hours upon hours. He’s asking to be first in our hearts. And if I can make time for the things that entertain me, surely I can make time for the One who sustains me.

Sometimes I wrestle with this, because as a wife and mom, my time for myself is limited and precious. A friend reminded me recently that I need to give myself grace, and I know that’s true. God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23), and He understands my limitations.

But I also know that excuses can’t be the norm. Our relationship with God is the most important one we’ll ever have. At the end of my life, my deepest desire is to stand before Him and hear the words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).

So today, I’m reminding myself and YOU, that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Five minutes of prayer while folding laundry. Reading a verse before bed instead of scrolling. Whispering thanks to God on the drive to practice. Little moments add up, and God delights in every one of them.

Let’s choose to make Him a priority. Let’s choose to give Him our best, not our leftovers. Because more than anything, I just want to be someone God is proud of.
